I was trying to capture vhs on using an ATI Radeon 64mb, the original Radeon with Vivo. I have a 250gb that I want to use for capturing, but whenever I try to capture onto the drive with VirtualDub, newest version, all my captured files are corrupt and will not play in anything. I tried capturing onto my older 40gb just to see if it would work, and it worked fine on the smaller drive. I was thinking that I might need to upgrade the service pack, I had a corruption problem before since Win XP needs SP1 to properly read a drive large than 138gb. But downloading SP2 did not solve the problem.

Have you tried capturing to the larger drive with ati's own software? Does it work with the supplied capture program?

I'm not sure if this will help , but I have this link handy from when I upgraded my HD. No problems thus far.

I thought it was the SP1 issue aswell. Like I said, I had that problem before. I was actually helping out a friend of mine with capturing and ran into this problem. But installing SP1 fixed the issue for me, but either way I think he had SP1, but either way we upgraded to SP2. Also, when we first tried to capture, Windows was popping up a bubble saying that files were corrupting. But that's why this problem is strange, since VirtualDub works fine on his comp since it captures to one of the drives, but the big drive is corrupting the captured files. I think I also tried using Ulead Media Studio Capture which did not work. I will tell him to try it again with ATI's software, but I doubt this is a software issue, unless it's something to do with Windows.

  5. Have you removed and recreated partitions, and formatted, the new drive in the PC, AFTER installing the service pack?

If I understand you correctly, this is somebody else's PC, capture is OK on a different (smaller) drive, corrupt on the 250GB?

What is the EXACT text of the error msg about corrupt files? Do not guess, do it again and write it down EXACTLY as shown.

Problem is obviously narrowed down to the large drive, either it is not set up properly, or it is defective. Bios settings, 80-wire cable, DMA mode? These would either be different or not required with the smaller drive.
