I would like to see the difference of a progressive scan DVD movie over an interlaced one. On my in laws DVD player it has a 'progressive' switch to change to progressive scan mode and it is displayed on a LCD tv. When I change it I can not notice an iota of difference.
So before I go and find out model numbers and info on the hardware I was wondering if someone could tell me how to tell if the actual DVD movie is in progressive scan or interlaced?
I have a large collection and I would imagine one must be in progressive to test.
Or are they all progressive or interlaced and im missing something?

Progressive only works through component or better connections, and may well make some programs even worse. If you want to find out which discs you have that may be progressive, try using the latest g-spot (2.52beta). Look at the pic/sec field. If you are NTSC, it should be 23.976.

I am PAL.....what would I look for there? And I take it there is nothing on the packaging where it lists all the features (5.1, widescreen etc etc)?

Maybe have always understood this incorrectly, but I don't think the DVD has anything to do with progressive. The method of transmitting the signal to the screen is what is progressive or not. See here:
