What's the point of having a limit ?

Some people reckon you can overburn DVDs. I'm not so sure, and would rather just DVDShrink it down to fit.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. My guess would be, it would either fit or it wouldn't

I have heard that overburning could damage hardware, I don't believe it, but do you really want to risk it? If it wasn't able to fit with "overburn", it would be like trying to "overburn" a videotape, the overage would be gone, as in the video would be cut off, if it's data, the extra data is gone and the file would be corrupt due to being partially missing....

If it's a Video DVD (as apposed to data), just DVD Shrink it and don't worry about what would happen....

    a dvd-r disk holds about 100meg more than a dvd+r disk ...

so if you were using dvd+r, burn a dvd-r instead is an easy solution

Alternatively, you can usually use some kind of Custom option and drop the video bit rate a hair, encode the audio as MP3 rather than LPCM (which will save a lot of space), etc. What options you have depend on what kind of video you are burning.
