  1. Hi,

I used winME untill recently but had to upgrade to Xp for some reason..

Capturing with my asus v7700 gts deluxe always worked great.
    704x576 with no dropped frames!!!

Now in XP I can't even get my capture device to work at all!!!

I tried to install Digital vcr from the asus site including the wdm drivers but
    with no results.

I want to use ulead's dvd workshop and/or videostudio 6.0 to capture.

Has anyone got any ideas for me?

    Thanx.

I don't have XP (I still use 98SE), but from what I've read, I think

    a) you will need the wdm drivers
    b) there is some sort of problem with the drivers delivered with digital VCR

    (Could be wrong though!!!)

I'd recommend getting the nVidia WDM 1.08 drivers and installing those instead of the ones with Digital VCR (I have heard something about editing the inf file for th D VCR ones to make the crossbar entry say ASUS instead in nVidia, or something...but it's easier just to get the other drivers.)

    get them here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000

You could try the 1.11's also, but I have found they put a big white rectangle over the capture (at least in Win98SE).

    They are available here:

    ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/VGA/V7x00/

Hope this all helps you a little.

  3. I tried to install those but now I'm getting the SEND/DON'T SEND screen at startup.

Capturing works now but when I play the captured file, it plays realy fast, like it has a framerate of 60 or so.

I think there is no solution available yet.

  4. Have you tried loking at this website? http://www.maxreboot.com/technogarb/index.php

    They have useful info.

I have the v7700 deluxe in XPpro and can capture using Asus Digital VCR 2.1 with no problems (almost). When I capture AVI at the highest resolution, both Windows Media Player and my Ulead programs play it back upside down and backwards! Capturing at slightly lower resolution or in a different format like mpeg works fine. Capturing with my Ulead programs works fine.
I'm using the official Asus 27.42 drivers and nvidia 1.08 wdm capture drivers. Don't get the stuff from the Asus web site. The web site I gave you above has forums that will tell you where you can download these lates drivers and Asus DVCR 2.1, and also lots about trouble shooting. Its dedicated to Asus cards with lots about video capture.
The way it worked for me....First you have to make sure you uninstall everything before you start.
Look under your device manager and make sure that no wdm capture devices remain under "sound and video game controllers". Reboot and let XP install its default driver. Then install the Asus 27.42 video driver reboot
then the wdm driver 1.08 (works for me) reboot...XP finds about 4 new devices
    then install Asus DVCR 2.1.

    That should work.

  5. tjmanning gives good advice. You might also want to take a look at my recent post on this thread (scroll to the bottom). It contains the steps I used to get video capture working with my v7700 on Win2K...the steps should be similar for WinXP, if not identical. I am able to use the ASUS dvcr, plus other capture programs such as VirtualDub.

  9. tjmanning,

    I have an additional question....

Now that i use my new drivers everything goes great but...

I used to be able to capture in 704x576 in ME.
Now i can only capture in 720x576 or 704x420.
Since 720x576 is to high for my system i have to capture to 704x420 but
then i have to convert to 704x576 in an editing program like mediastudio or something else, with as a result that i get audio out of sync and realy bad video quality.

My main motive is to capture from HI8 camcorder, edit and burn on DVD.

    Greets from Belgium.
