Ok, I'm using SUPER to convert avi to mpeg2. I usually select the ffmpeg options when I'm converting and about 7000+ Kbps for the bitrate. With the ffmpeg option the results are quite good, but the fille sizes range from 350 to 450MB. When I tried the mencoder with same video options(res, bitrate, fps etc.), the video result is always ridden with artifacts, but the file size is always under 200MB.

I have no idea what its like that. I can't really blame the software because one option is giving my fantastic results and the other giving me the total opposite. Maybe some one can explain this issue?

No, it doesn't provide many options for mencoder so I can't make any serious adjustments....

ffmpeg and mencoder both use the same mpeg2 encoder.
