I've never used the Avermedia QucikPlay but it should work for viewing your PC on a TV. Picture quality will probably not be great though.

2. It definitely doesn't support Rm files or Real Player.
Vs. Going with the product from radio shack and using component cables to run TV. This way he basically gets what you see on the computer monitor is what your going to see on the TV screen, right?
