No HD-DVD Movies Until April

I saw a price of $1000 bucks for the player, I'll pass until they are in the $200 range or something eles supercedes it and is that price.

I might be waiting a while considering how long it took DVD players to get into that range.... oh well.

You know what ? Thost movie release prices remind of the good old
days of when Laserdisc movies were these prices, back in the day.

I'm guessing that the next level after the disks technoligy have been
exhausted (to whatever extent) ..

.. that the next audio/video recording to, method would be the Chip.
Much like they already have now, on the flash drives today.

I have a 128mb and a 1gig chip stick. The chip itself is only half an
in in size. No HDD, just celicon / electroncs.

After that, I dont' know.. hologram; mind-meld, etc. I don't know.

Well don't they already have a pc hddvd burner available??? If so then if you have a hdtv capture card you could still utilize a hddvd player without commercial movies available. It would be nice to be able to author the .tp files without converting. That would really make it a lot quicker and neater. Even if you don't have a hdtv that would save hours of converting time and preserve the 5.1 audio if your show you recorded had it.

I was going to add.. they have 1gig and 2gig sticks, but I heared they
are going to 10gigs already.

If blue-ray is 30gig, then it aought to be a sinch to make a 30gig
stick, and greater.. wouldn't you say ?

No I mean one of the next gen disc formats has a pc burner available or will be very shortly. That way you could burn high def blanks on your own.

No HD or BD erasable out at consumer level yet but I will certainly be considering those.

This is an interesting topic, I just saw my first HD-DVD commercial today on USA. It was from Toshiba touting the greatness of the new format. My favorite part was the almost unviewable "fine print" at the bottom of the screen talking about compatability issues of all formats on their player. Made me laugh in general.

Watching the way flash memory prices are dropping and capacity is increasing, I would expect all optical media (CD and DVD - hd or not) to be gone within 5 years. And Good Riddance.

Well Flash memory is the competing Panasonic technology but currently flash is very expensive and record times are short. HDD will supplement flash for now.

Look at consumer flash module prices. Apprx $60 per gig. and dropping weekly. In spite of Apple's attempts to corner the flash market to supply their iPod needs.

SD card (standard 6x) = 900 KB/s = 0.9MB/s
SD card (v1.01: 66x) = 10 MB/s
SD card (v1.1: 133x) = 20 MB/s (future)

So internally the P2 card needs 8 parallel v1.01 SD cards or 4 v1.1(future) SD cards.
Sandisk v1.01 1 GB cards list ~ $80 so a 8MB P2 card has eight of these plus PC card adapter or ~$700. The rest would be Panasonic markup.

16GB P2 cards (2GB SD technology @$120) would build up to ~$1000 at today's prices.

By the time BD media gets reasonable, we will have realtime hardware h.264 transcoders that will allow standard DVD bitrates and standard DVD media to be used for HD PVR.
