Before we get to the TBC question, I'll give some background about my problem.
First, here is how I captured shows on TV before:
Cable Box -> regular TV set -> S-VHS VCR -> ADVC-100 -> Laptop
So now my Dad does a MAJOR upgrade, (he recently retired and treated himself), and now we got like a new Plasma TV, speakers all over, gah a lot of electronic stuff.
Everything goes to this thing called a Reciever and I guess it's the 'brain' and does all the switching of inputs for everything.
My Dad helped me figure how I could still capture, and here is how we set it up:
S-VHS VCR audio and S-Video OUTPUTs go to the INPUTs end of the ADVC-100 and then the ADVC-100 OUTPUTs go to the Reciever, which I guess forwards all these signals so I can see picture on the Plasma TV. And of course the firewire OUTPUT goes to my laptop.
Now here is the problem:
Capturing is fine and I can see the picture clearly with my capture program on the laptop. It's the picture on the Plasma TV that isn't great. It flickers and does all this weird stuff. Turning on the TBC on JVC S-VHS kinda helped, but still got some flickering and kinda corrupted image.
I read the Reciever manual and I think I found a section addressing my problem:
I don't know what VTR stands for, but if getting a TBC will help, (I'm thinking about getting the Datavideo TBC-1000), my question is: Should the TBC go before the ADVC-100 or after?
Thanks for reading!

Right after the VCR, at least that's where it goes when your doing VCR>TBC>ADVC>Computer. Not sure how it fits into the above but it takes what is a otherwisw sloppy signal and turns it into a sychononized one which is what you want for capture....
