I saw a pirated DVD that has 15 episodes of Naruto (japanese anime) in one DVD. how do you place 15 episodes in one DVD?

i have also TV captured episode of Naruto from our tv cable saved in my Hard Disk in MPEG1 format and i want also to fit them in one DVD disc. I DONT CARE if the quality IS NOT that good since my recorded MPEG1 files are not also that good in terms of video quality i just want it to fit them in a single DVD disc. How do you do it? any tutorials there? Again Im not particular about the quality of the video output just want to burn 15 or lesser, the more the better, episodes of my captured TV shows. my captured MPEG1 tv shows are around 400 to 500 MB each. how many do you think i can cram in a single DVD? again the more i can burn in one DVD the better, even if the video quality is NOT that good.

You don't say how long the episodes are, which is the most important figure.

    Assuming 1/2 hr, 15 X 30 mins = 7.5 hrs
Using a bitrate calculator I get 1126 kbps, which is OK for a DVD resolution of 352x240 (1/4 DVD - NTSC). Use that resolution and bitrate and you will have 7.5 hrs on a DVD at VCD quality.

As for your other question: you can get 8 - 500MB episodes on a DVD (4GB / 500MB).

yes each episode is only 1/2 hour.
what software do you recommend to get that 7.5 hrs on a DVD at VCD quality? do i need to convert my mpeg1 before burning them to DVD?

    im just using single layer.

VCDEasy to extract the mpeg from the VCD files, then TDA to author. TDA will take the VCD mpegs files, upsample the audio to a compliant 48khz, and leave the video untouched.

Less than half hour. Take out the commercials and intermission, you end up with roughly 23 minutes, even less if you cut the intro and outtro/credits.

I just saw a TV commercial for a 4 DVD set with 50 movies for "over 60 hours" of entertainment.

Here is the website ---> http://www.50horrorclassics.com/

Now the TV ad very clearly said 4 DVD discs but I see the website (which I got from the TV ad) still says 50 movies and "over 60 hours" but instead of 4 it says 5 DVD discs. Ironically there is a small sized video of the exact TV ad I saw on the website again confirming that the TV ad says 4 DVD discs and not 5 as the website says.

Still though I wonder ... 60 hours on 5 DVD discs? That is an average of 12 hours per DVD disc!

Using the videohelp.com BITRATE CALCULATOR I get the following:

I used the default size for a DVD9 and selected 192kbps for the audio which seems to me the lowest that would be used. That leaves 1346kbps for the video which is actualy just above the VCD standard of 1150kbps so I guess I just convinced myself that this is possible but damn ... it must look like shit!

thanks guys for the info. ill try to experiment during weekends...

a friend told me that he bought 6in1, 15in1 movies/episode on DVD and he said they are of good video quality. i don't know for sure coz i never bought pirated DVDs. maybe ill find out after doing it myself...making my own 15in1 DVD of my captured tv shows of course not buying and viewing pirated ones. or maybe i could borrow his pirated DVDs just to satisfy my curiosity...

good quality is in the eye of the beholder. Usually, those who tell you 10 hours on a disc is good quality are only taking the word of their seeing-eye dog.

Those old horror movies and old westerns DVDs are all in Black and White. Since there is no chroma information you can squeeze the heck out of the video and still make it acceptable. Well, acceptable to some perhaps. When I do B&W TV shows, I usually record them in 3 hour mode on the Liteon. These look quite nice on TVs up to 27". Colour shows are always in 2 hour or 1 hour mode.

Yes but the only way they can put all those (mostly b/w) horror films on 5 DVD discs is to use VCD resolution which I find unacceptable.

Your Lite-On in the 3 hour mode uses Half D1 resolution which is head and shoulders above VCD resolution.

We are talking 352x240 vs. 352x480 ... huge difference!

Of course the resolution is only part of it. At LP speed, the bitrate is head and shoulders above VCD (1150 kbps CBR vs up to 4500 kbps VBR), so it will look great even though it's much lower than what I normally do (6500 kbps - 10Mbps VBR). That's where the real savings comes from in those videos, low bitrates and lowered resolution on black and white material. I can't stand them myself...
