Hello, first id like to say thanks for previous reply to the ever helping members.Il try to explain.
As mention in the topic. Yesterday ive reencoded avi files to smaller size, the plan is to kept all in under 300mb (avg 796br 2 pass) from a 700mb (avg 1700br). The small size muxed with softsub and audio (demux from original file) and kept it in container. Conversion are using xvid 1.1 in virtualdubMpeg, while audio is converted using besweet lite to nero he aac, and muxed with avi to gui.
The reason of using xvid is because its conversion took at least 40% faster than divx (using dr.divx 5). I wanted to use divx but it doesnt support external subs (ive tried using bmp2xsub but not succesfull, the last process delete the bmps but no xsub output). the question
1. What profile and what container should i use for xvid so that its compatible to divx certified player (what subtitle format also?)
2. Is avi container the right choice? because ive read that nero digital is getting supported also? fyi, divx havent fully adapted by my country, infact none of my friends or relative have any idea what is divx certified player, and divx certified player arrived in mid 2005 from lg electonics. some thought it means it support any device connections! :P .
3. is 800br is a good quality on hardware player for large tv projection (i know its old tech)? by visual comparison (in pc resolution) between the original file, its the same quality (infact at first i was converting to x264 also using 800br one pass hispeed hiquality setting as indicated by doom9 forum, and the quality is identical to original file).
as for side note,
original file = avg 1700br-700mb - 45 min video
xvid = avg 796br 2 pass (total conversion took 2hr in vdubmpg w/o filters)
x264= 800br 1 pass hispeed hiquality (doom9 forum) (conversion also took roughly 2hr 5min in vdubmpg w/o filters)
(why am i converting? videos are comedy n not some hi fx action video. Took 6 month to save fuel money for my car to buy a sony duallayer burner cost $250. media storage is expensive ie. 10 pieces single layer dvd cost $20 to $25. pc hdisk 80Gb cheapest cost $110. my 80gb external storage is outofspace. My 5yrs old 40GB is outofspace, my 5months old 60gb laptop is out of space. my 2yr old 60gb pc is nearly outofspace. And i just recently graduated hence unemployed = no money. btw $1.00x1.3=us dollars. expensive stuff for one of the small rich country but poor population)

You should use the Home Theatre profiles and avi/divx as a conainer. For DivX certified subs you are stuck with xsubs. Most players will handle external srt's and other textsubs fine though.
