Batch Processing

I've used HDTV2DVD a few times, but would like to get more productive using batch processing, so was thinking about SVCD2DVD. The problem is, I don't understand how it would work. The demo movies don't show it, and the free version doesn't include it.

If I downloaded the free version of SVCD2DVD, would it indicate how batch processing works, even though it doesn't actually work?

Let's say I have 4 transport stream files I've recorded. I can fit two on a DVD (but of course I can't put both on because I only have HDTV2DVD and it is limited like that). But with SVCD2DVD, If I dragged all 4 to the assets for batch processing, how would it know to group the first two for DVD 1 and the last 2 for DVD 2? I don't get how it works, or if it would even benefit me.

Finally, I noticed that besides the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, I get an mpg flie output. What do people use that file for? Is that if I wanted to do the DVD authoring using another tool?

There is no batch processing as such in SVCD2DVD... (yet), however if you wanted to create 2 DVDs with 2 TS files on each then no problem.

You could have a DVD with both TS files in the same TitleSet and so the second would play after the first, or you could put each one in its own TitleSet and have a Menu to select between the two.

You could repeat for the second DVD.

Alternatively you could put all 4 on the same DVD if the combined duration of the files made sense for you to do so.

The mpg can be used in other programs. In the case of SVCD2DVD with will use these mpegs as is and will not reproceess them.

Thanks for the reply. I might not be the typical user, but what I'd like is the ability to set-up the transcoding for more than one DVD. Then later, I'd be able to just do the burning. Right now I'm limited to 1 DVD every two days (start transcoding, go to bed, get up go to work, come home, start burn, go to bed, get up go to work, come home, start transcoding )

Well there is nothing stoping you starting more than one instance of SVCD2DVD, thus transcoding for more than one DVD... Then you can burn. Obviously that will be batching in parellel whereas most people would want batching in series.... It is in the pipline however!

Why didn't I think of that! Obviously split the CPU and take much longer, but it goes from high utilization for an hour or two to 99% idle for 23 hours anyway. Thanks!
