I know this question has been asked and answered repeatedly but I am still having trouble.
My goal to take a vob file that has ac3 audio and edit it with adobe premiere pro.
What I have done:
Demuxed the video with several different programs into a mp2 file as well as a m2v. I then drag the m2v file to adobe where it says importing files and stays like that for a long time without actually importing. How long should this take? The file is 263mb and I get absolutely nothing. Do I need to do something to the m2v file prior to importing? I dont know if this is an adobe problem or the file problem.
I am only wanting about a 1 minute clip from the vob file. Is there a right way to cut up a vob file with ac3 audio. I tried mpeg-vcr and the video comes out right but the audio is garbled. I didn't know if I cut the video size down then perhaps adobe could handle it better.

you could convert the vob or m2v to avi with virtualdubmpeg2, you can cut out the 1 minute clip with virtualdubmpeg2 also.
and PLEASE try use a subject that describes your topic problem. -
Thanks
I had read your guide about this tool but was scared away when I went to download it because of the following statement.
Note that this version cannot decompress AC-3 audio.
Sorry about the heading -
Thanks for the help
I have installed the dll files and virtualdub-mpeg2 and cut out just a minute of the vob file I ran it the first time without any compression. The resulting file was over 2gb so I compressed it with both xvid and divx. I drug this into premiere and get the same importing files without any action. It just stays on this screen for over a half hour.
After vdub-mpeg2 do I still need to strip out the ac3 file? could that be why it won't import the file??
Or
Does adobe not accept xvid/divx? -
I don't use Premiere but from what I've read on these boards it seems to be very picky about what formats it will accept. You might try the Panasonic DV Codec. The colorspace changes will lead to some picture degradation though.

Thanks for all of your help
I finally got it to work.
I'm posting this in case anyone else sees this in the archives
Used virtualdub-mpeg2 and cut the file down like I wanted
I applied a filter -> resize 720x480
Then went to the panasonic compression
Then frame rate and put in 29.97 for the frame rate
Then switched the audio off and converted it.
I then went in and generated a wav form and that still wouldn't work so I dropped that into BeSweet and converted a wav to a mp3-wav and then dropped both the audio and video into premiere and it seems to work. Hard to tell if sync problems due to the video I was using.
