If you decide to use VirtualDub and only want to cut parts of the video out ect... with no filters, use Direct stream copy and it will function similar to VideoRedo and output will be very fast.Originally Posted by gordon01

Be aware that you can start a clip on a key frame when in direct stream copy mode.Originally Posted by laspis59

Sorry,I dont quite understand.Originally Posted by junkmalle
So you mean the beginning of the clip has to start at a key frame which is visible at the bottom of VirtualDub's window as (K)?
What about at the end, does it also have to end at a key frame?
What about cutting unwanted parts?
I didn't know this.
The video's I have processed seem to play back fine.
OK found a guide:

Oops, I left out a word! You can ONLY start a clip on a key frame when working in Direct Stream Copy mode. You can end the clip anywhere you want. When deleting portions in the middle of a video each sub-clip that you are keeping must start on a key frame. If you mark at a non key frame VirtualDub will start the clip at the preceeding key frame.Originally Posted by laspis59
So if you want to cut out an ad in the middle of a movie you can end the first part of the movie clip just before the ad, key frame or not. But the second part of the movie clip will have to start on a key frame. You may end up with a little bit of the ad or losing a little of the movie.
Key frames contain an entire picture encoded something like a jpeg image. All the other frames only contain the changes from frame to frame. Imagine a short clip of a man talking with only his lips moving. A key frame contains the entire picture, the man and the background. The non-key frames only encode the moving lips. If you started a clip on a non-key frame there would be no way of reconstructing the background. All you are left with is the moving lips. -
Thanks for the detailed explaination junkmalle,it is much appreciated.
