I converted a video to mpg using TMPGenc, but whenever the volume got loud, u can hear a bit scratchiness, especially during dialogue. This is not present in the original video.

I tried normalizing the sound in TMPGenc down to 80%, but it still came out the same. I tried ripping the audio to .wav with another program, and converting again in TMPGenc, but still the same problem.

Anyone know what's wrong? (I've converted other videos before without this problem.

TMPGEnc's internal audio encoder used to be crap, so since those days I've always used SSRC and toolame, or done the audio seperately using either ffmpeggui, belight or besweet.
    If in doubt, Google it.

SSRC handles sample rate conversions. toolame encodes to MP2.

So you'd probably be best to have both.
    If in doubt, Google it.
