  1. Recently I bought a spindle RiDisc 8xDVD-R "CMC MAG.AE1" non-printable. On the top side is printed "Made in China".
I burned two of them @8x speed on a Pioneer DVR-107, FW 1.20. They showed good Kprobe scans with a Liteon SOHW-1653S drive. But on my standalone player Pioneer DV-454 they were not recognized. Then I burned another @4x speed on the DVR-107, it played without problems on the player DV-454.

Does anyone know if CMC produces in China? Or are those disks fake CMC?

Must be desperate to fake CMC.

Sounds like more of that INFOSMART fake shit. BulkPaq is an Infodisc supplier, and I'd not doubt ties to Ridisc, who've used junk in the past. Bulkpaq has used CMC media codes in the past, but I've never been convinced that it was really CMC media.

All CMC is made in Taiwan as far as I know.

And it's not been called Taiwan R.O.C. in years now, so I doubt it's made in Taiwan but considered Chinese.

On the other hand, if it plays back okay, scans okay, and re-copies okay, it may be CMC media. Your finicky results are on par with CMC media. And the packaging is wrong.

    Stinks all around.

    The bottom line here is:
    - Ridisc is not a high quality brand, it's a generics user
    - Chinese media is never high quality, they have poor quality control
    - CMC media, even legit, is not great

I think CMC does have some manufacturing in China as there is Verbatim DLP CD-Rs made in China (Mexico too), all by CMC.
