this may be stupid, but i'm new to this. i burned my first dvd-r the other night with ulead moviefactory, and it had the option to create a disc image and some folders. i clicked on those options and when i was done i had a "dvd_vdf.iso" file and "audio_ts" and "video_ts" folders on my hard drive.

what i'm wondering is what these are? what can i use them for? will they allow me to record the same dvd even if i trash all my mpeg2 videos? thanks for any help, peace

  2. the iso file is used by nero and other software ot burn a DVD disc, the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder are used in a DVD disc and can be burned in Nero as DVD UDF/ ISO compilation, and then adding those 2 folders and burning the DVD.

so that means that i can delete all my mpeg2 files and just keep the iso and those two folders and still burn the same exact dvd?... with menus and all? i'm interested in this because i'd like to be able to do this if possible. i could save space on my hard drive and i could backup the iso and the two folders on a dvd, then reload them onto my hard drive and burn the dvd whenever i needed. thanks for any input on this.

The .iso file is a binary image of the DVD disk it is all you will need to burn another DVD.

The video and audio _TS folders are what is actualy on the DVD they contain (guess what!) the Video and the Audio of the movie....

if you want a backup just save the .iso file.

But if you already have a working DVD, THAT can be your backup too.

thanks for the info. the reason i need to use the .iso as my backup is because i don't have another dvd-rom drive expect for my pioneer dvd-r drive. so i wouldn't be able to just copy my working dvd-r because i don't have another drive to read it. that's why i'm so interested in the .iso, becuase it give me a way to backup my dvd's with menus and all, and then reload them onto my hard drive at a later date and burn another dvd movie. thanks again, peace

  6. the reason why i'ld keep the AUDIO_TS and the VIDEO_TS folders and not the iso is to check the vob files ans make sure they play correctly in power dvd, then you can use those 2 folder in Nero to burn to make a DVD. I'ld also keep a few DVD-RW (if you hve the A03 / A04 ) on hand to check you burns before you commit to a DVD-R, tihs has save me ( even when I do check the vob files for play back ) as sometime you catch something on the TV that you did not catch on the PC.

just so i understand this... all i need are the audio_ts and video_ts folders? all i want is to be able to burn a dvd at a later date. put the backup on a dvd-r and when necessary, load it back onto my hard drive and make the burn either using the .iso file or the folders. thanks anyone for the clarification, peace

  8. yes all you need is either the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders or the *.iso image, but I suspect he iso image takes up less hard drive space.
