For those of you who're curious, I found the wrapper that enables Virtualdub to detect my ATI AIW Radeon card. I've been capturing avi files with Ulead VideoStudio, but it won't allow me to use different compression codecs, during capture. Now that I can capture with Virtualdub, I'm able to get results more suited to my liking.

I have also learned how to eliminate those irritating interlace lines. I didn't know that the answer was as simple as a Virtualdub filter.
