    This is a common issue and was resolved with one of the latest service packs. If you do a search for it you'll find lots of people who had the same issue.

    A Precision 360? That's one of their workstation line. I didn't know they sold those to consumers, but I guess I've never looked. Does it have a Quadro graphics card in it like the 360s we've got at work?

    Thanks. I'll search again and see what I can find. The new HDD is in, and my computer tech confirmed that he could not perform a Defrag using the Win2K built-in tools.

    If I can't fix it up, I might get OO Defrag or Norton Utilities or such; I was reading members' advice about them in the forum.

    It is my business machine (self-employed Web developer/graphic designer).
    Does it have a Quadro graphics card in it like the 360s we've got at work?
    I've got an ATI Fire GL X1 Dual-Monitor card in it.
