Pete's Dragon (DIsney) DVD un-copyable?

I got a Walt Disney's Pete's Dragon DVD which my computer nor DVDShrink or DVD Decryptor can read. just says disc unreadable. But works in a DVD player.

Try DVDFab decrypter and ISOBuster.

Could be a scratched disc. PC drives are more sensative to errors than standalone dvd players.

not really any scratches that should be concerned. it is a gold bottom, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Does it play in the dvd-rom on your pc ?
Like with windvd.
Can you see it or the contents on it through windows exporer ?

Actually, you should be concerned with ANY scratches. Any. Keep in mind that even fingersmudges or "invisible greasy spots" can keep a disc from being ripped. And, even if it plays fine in a standalone player, that still does not mean it is clean and scratch-free.

When you play it in a DVD player, there is all sorts of error correction working to try to help it "skip past" any smudges, scratches, oil, grease, fingerprints, etc. Your DVD player will try to jump to the next frame (if it is a close match), or it will try to re-construct bad parrts of a frame from the frames nearby. It was designed to keep on going, so you can view the movie.

Ripping is different, though. Now, we are looking for transferring the entire contents of the original. When you rip, accuracy is important. Every frame is vital, and every digital "1" and "0" that makes up each part of that frame. So, the ripping software will generally stop and let you know the instant it cannot read a single "one" or "zero."

Try to clean the disc. If you do not know how, try to do a search, this has been discussed here hundreds of times.

And, no the gold bottom is not a concern.

Well, from what he wrote, i asked what i asked because if you look at his pc specs he does not even have listed that he has a dvd-rom or burner 8)
And myself along with quite a few others here have seen, people ask why their cd-burner would not read or write to a dvdr

is it a store-bought DVD? never seen one with a gold bottom. if not you may be able to just drag and drop to a folder via explorer. or use IsoBuster as suggested above. IsoBuster works great!!

I still think noahtuck's question is a good one.
Can this Pete's Dragon dvd be read via his pc drive at all?
Does Windows Explorer see the files on it?
Can it be played/viewed via his computer?
That would tell us if the disc is simply incapable of being used on a computer at all - which clearly makes it defective and should be returned, in my opinion.
Also - could this disc be a different region coded dvd than his drive is set for causing a problem?

I backed it up long ago no probs. It's dual layer so I took movie only using Shrink so that I wouldn't have to compress much. Came out great!

The gold-bottomed DVDs are not exactly what I would call "rare," nor are they what I would call "common." They are somewhere in between. They certainly exist, and the earliest ones led to all sorts of claims that they produced "better sound," or "a better picture," or that they were somehow superior... nonsense, of course. (For a brief while this was the "green magic marker on the CD" myth all over again.)

You will note that the thread lists at least six or seven different titles, some of which were reasonably popular sellers. Also, you will note that they were used for commercial discs, and also for blank DVDs and also for blank CDs.
