Use virtualdub & either this guide or this guide.

This was found in the Guides section (to your left) under Edit > How to cut/join/edit AVI/DivX/XviD ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

do as jim stated. IMO Virtualdub or one of it's variants is hard to beat for avi files

Then there's a problem with your AVI. VBR MP3 maybe?

  6. I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with my AVI. Every time i try to open a file, it says "VBR audio stream detected". So i downloaded Nandub to solve the problem...but no luck.

The general solution for taking care of VBR MP3 AVIs is to demux the audio, convert to wav (and, if you still want it as AVI, reencode the wav to CBR MP3 and mux it back into the AVI). Not sure what you did with NanDub to cure the problem, but it obviously didn't work?

  8. oh...hmm....that sounds complicated...uh i am a newbie to all this..um how do u demux the audio, and convert to wav? and then like reencode the wav to CBR MP3 and mux it back into the AVI? Sorry...

o i downloaded nandub because i was lookin through the guide on
how to cut a DivX/AVI file and it said that if a window popups and say that "VBR audio stream detected", i have to get nandub or virtualdub mp3 freeze

Easiest way to get a wav out of an AVI is to just load the AVI in Goldwave, save wav.
For wav to mp3 I use CDEx.
    VirtualDubMod to replace/add audio streams.
The big question is: What do you intend to do with the AVI after it's split?
