  1. I have been reading these forums and trying all kinds of encoding methods for the last month and everything I try fails. I can't even get a dvd burned to watch, and see what other things I've screwed up. At this point I don't know what the sam hell I'm doing. I have tried to convert from pal format to ntsc only to have huge audio sync problems, so to solve that problem I will just stick to ntsc format and forget pal sources completely. However, I have an avi movie that used the divx5 codec (which I have installed & 3.11a) in a 23.976 fps (film) format. I want to make a dvd, not vcd or svcd (maybe that's my problem, most of you create the other). I used virtualdub to convert my audio to wav, then opened tmpge and used the avi file for the video and the wav file for the audio. On the video settings page, I chose 4:3, 23.976 frames, vbr, and the 3:2 pulldown when playback. On the advanced tab, I chose 1:1 vga. The resulting mpg was audio and no video when I tried to view it with windows media player. I changed a few settings and encoded again, same result, no video. Is this a complete waste of my time, or is it possible to burn a dvd movie with what I've got? I'm truly at the end of my rope.

  2. Might want to go to Ulead.com and download their trial of Videostudio 6 and try it out. A trial version of DVD Workshop is avaliable too. I reccommend to use these to kinda get a feel for the process. I also use the freeware's too like virtualdub, TENPEng and VCDEasy.

remember that wmp don't support mpeg2, you either need to install a dvd player or mpeg2 codec.
