My set up is :
AMD XP 1700+
512mb ram
primary drive (apps only ) Hitachi 80gb 7200rpm
secondary Drive (capture drive) Hitachi 120gb 7200rpm
On Board Sound card (I Know I have read the stickys but wait just yet)
Hauppauge Win TV PVR USB 2 capture device (hardware mpeg2 encoder)
I have capture 2 tapes recently using the identical settings, however the second tapes always has problems with Magix (which is a very fussy program). The first file is not a problem and can be encoded to DVD no problem. The second tape gives an ACCESS VIOLATION in MPEG2.DLL.
I have used the PVAStrumento program to demux the file and then had to use TMPGENC to re-encode it (not re-mux as this doesn't cure the problem either). However although this cures it to have to use TMPGEnc to do this, takes 2 to 3 hours and then I will have to spend a further 2-3 hours to encode to DVD through Magixs.
I am wondering if anyone can suggested an alternative as I am unable to upgrade the hardware. Also if I capture a digital source again I do not have a problem.
The capture connections are composite .
Also I have defrag the D drive (which is the capture drive)
I hope I have given enough info on this but I am happy to supply more if required.

Well since I made this post, I decided not to give in to this problem. So I have been trying every type of recording settings within WinTV 2000. As I type this message Magix is compiling the file I created to DVD. So I am not holding my breath until its complete but it has got alot further than before.
If I am successful I will reply back with what I have done. Although there has been so many changes to get this far I will have to list all of them just incase.Regards

Advanced MPEG Video Editors then you should be looking at Womble MPEG Video Wizard.
Basic Video Editors Womble MPEG-VCR, TMPGEnc MPEG Editor and VideoReDo.
Thoses are best tools when it come to working with the Hauppauge WinTV PVR device. -

Thanks anyway for your input , and may latest attempt didn't work as Magix didn't read the audio in correctly, but it wasn't magixs fault as PVAStrumento couldn't do anything with the file either!Regards

What do you mean DVD encoding are you ref to DVD Authoring?.
Are the clip new recording which have been touch by other apps or patch by other MPEG Tools?.
I didn't point this out soon any way it is well know that some apps and even editor DO NOT like the MPEG2 format know as DVD Stream so that said let start from ground up clean fresh start.
First take look this page WinTV-PVR Custom MPEG Setting it should be the some for USB2 as well.
1: Chosse the DVD Long Play profile.
2: Click on the Video tab change the Output Stream from DVD to ProgramStream.
3: Click the Configuration tab then Type in a name for the settings that you just created like "DVD Long Play (ProgramStream)" then click on "Save New Config" button and then select “OK”.
4: Capture your clip.
5: Edit the clip (First thing rule always output a file under a new name).
6: Do your DVD Authoring oh here My DVD Authoring How to page if any help to you. -

If that still fail try using Ulead DVD MovieFactory
It should be on the PVR USB CD. -
I have tried the settings that you mentioned in the post and the results are odd. The same tape has 2 25 minute clips. So I recorded the first - this was accepted by magixs (it does an import when loading a file in) and also completed the DVD authoring no problems.
I then recorded the second 25 minute clip and magix will not import this file instead I get a Windows is generating a log etc and Magix shuts down. Any thoughts on this?Regards

Hi again
I have looked at the Womble MPEG Video Wizard which does look ok. Do I understand correctly that this program simply will create a MPEG1/2 file with the effects applied so then this can be used in any DVD author software?Regards

hi again
Just another question on this :
What is the difference between the DVD setting and the Program setting?Regards
Timcs -
I have managed to resolve the problem with the 2nd part of the tape by setting the resolution to 480x576 and this is OK now
