  1. I can only back up my DVD's with 4x media. If I use 8x and burn @ 2x ( which I do with my 4x's ) the picture seems to studer on playback. I have tried this with all different kinds of 8x media and different burning speeds. I have tried 2 of the same brand dvd blanks, one 4x and one 8x, and only the 4x plays back proper.

    Thanks, Confused

  2. Simple, do not burn at 2X. If you can burn at 4X, then burn at 4X. The media code of the blanks that you are using should be looked up on the list to the left to find out if they are even reliable. Brand names don't mean jack!

Are you able to burn at 4x? If not, check to make sure that your drives are not stuck in PIO only one. (That is, make sure that DMA if available is enabled).

Could be bad media. What media are you using?

What's happening to your burn buffer when burning? What program are you using to burn? What type of burner do you have?

Have you defrag`ed your harddrive lately.

  4. Sorry I did not make myself clear. Whether I burn at 4x,8x, 2x, 1x I get the same thing ( stuttering ) when using 8x media. If i burn at 1x,2x.3x.4x using 4x media it is good. I am using Memorex brand for each ( 4x and 8x ) . I tried defraging. I am using Nero and burn buffer seems good. This happens with ANY 8x media that I use. Even if I burn at 4x with it.

  5. There's your answer, your using memorex media :) Seriously, like the hatchet man said, brand names don't mean jack. Also, some brands of same speed media will have different media code i.e. manufacturer.

Your problem with the 8x disc is probably due to your burner not supporting that particular media (code) and using it's default burn strategy, which is incompatible with said media.

For best results, always use discs that are on the drive's recommended media list (get it from the manufacturer's website).
