I have a Sony DVD camcorder. While waiting to build a new pc I have been archiving footage for the last 5 months. I film in widescreen using rewritable discs and then I use ImageMixer (came with camcorder) to rip the mpegs from the disc and store the files on regular DVD's.
I am using Pinnacle Studio 9 and when I try to load one of these up so I can go into edit more it performs the scene detection and then gives me a thumbnail of the video.

1st of all it recognizes all of the files as 4:3 although I have recorded in widescreen....but this option can be changed.
2nd ...I can't play the file in edit mode. It just does nothing. It has to be recognizing something since it is showing me a frame of the video in the thumbnail that I get. But I cannot get one of them to play.

I CAN play all of these files perfectly with PowerDVD.

....any idea what the problem can be?
    Thanks for any help.

BTW: I tried DVD Workshop 2 and it recognized and played the files.

I got a reply over in a Pinnacle forum that worked....here it is...

If these files are in mpeg format try downloading the following

    TRex
    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/supportfiles/trex.exe
convert your mpegs to mpeg-2 ps

for highest possible conversion in mpeg-2 format

then bring the files into studio
