Just rip with dvd decrypter, shrink if needed with DVD Shrink, burn to dvdr and your done, the backup will now be region free 8)
Or more acurately, all region encoded

  5. What player was it and what media did you use?

If it was to do with region encoding it would give an error explaining that this was the case.

If the dvd burned was region free then it cannot possibly be a region issue.

Did the dvd play on your PC. How about a different dvd player. Some dvd medias are not compatible with some dvd players, particularly cheap players.

You can set a region if DVD Shrink, so you could burn it in the region you are in. I seem to remember a discussion over on the mediachance board regarding region codes. If I remember rightly, region codes can be put in two places, one of which is the reserved area that CSS is embedded in, and that burners cant write to. Some players will look here, and refuse to play if the right region isn't found.

sorry, but even dvd shrink won't make a dvdr only "ONE" specific region 8)
And making it all region would acomplish the same result.
He should just select "Region Free" the only thing he might have to worry about is if it will play the brand of media or if there is a format issue... IE: pal or ntsc......

It would really help IF we (well some of us) knew where you were, which might tell us WHAT FORMAT was native to WHERE YOU WERE... not to mention. other factors
