Here is my setup: Asus P2B-F mobo (slot 1) converted to run socket 370 cpu on 100MHz FSB, Intel Celeron 1.4GHz cpu, 1GB memory (all matching sticks), Maxtor 7200rpm 30GB HD, Sony CD-Rom 40x-52x, Sony DVD-Rom 40x, Sony Dw D22A burner with firmware revision BYS2.

I am currently using AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and the latest release of Nero to burn.

Situation: I have no problems using Maxell 4x or Memorex 8x disks in the burner, but I cannot get to burn at 8x due to "source data is too slow", according to the Nero burning program. DMA is enabled on all channels, my HD is Master on Primary IDE, CD-Rom is slave Primary IDE, my burner is master on secondary IDE, my DVD-Rom is slave on secondary IDE.

I get options eveytime I backup dvd's using dvd shrink to burn: 1x, 2x, 2.4x OR 4x, 6x, 8x, depending on the dvd that has been decrypted, again I can burn fine at 4x, but cannot achieve the other burning speeds. I fail burning at 8x, have not attempted to burn at 6x, I know 4x works every time.

I have combed every website looking for possible answers, but to no avail, does anyone have any ideas as how to IMPROVE data transfer rate?

I would appreciate any help on this subject. Thank you.

    You might try https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Nero_CD-DVD_Speed

Try a 80 conductor IDE cable if you aren't using one.

Also with Shrink, try DVDDecrypter to burn instead.

You can also test your system and drives with SiSandra. It will give you transfer rates of all drives
