Dirty record or playback heads ?
There is nothing, theoretically, to prevent a macrovision type protection being included in the broadcast, but I haven't heard of it being used.
I have analog cable, I record mostly boxing.
ESPN2 boxing from last Friday night appears to strobe at times.
This was recorded using my dvd recorder.
Last nights NBCs' Contender appears to jitter, this was recorded with my VHS recorder.
What gives ?
Dirty record or playback heads ?

call the cable company and complain.
Perhaps it's an experiment using a broadcast flag.
You're never alone with schizophrenia.
broadcast flag won't affect analog recording.
I used my computer's TV card, a Leadtek "Winfast TV2000XP", to recordOriginally Posted by pinetop
the same boxing event and I also noticed that the show looked fine on the
TV screen while watching it live, but when I replayed the recording from
my computer it looked horrible, grainy & jittering. I thought it was just my
in-house wiring or my computer having signal problems. However, I've
recorded other shows afterward, without changing the wiring or settings,
and the image is back to it's normal quality.
Any new rumors about a broadcast technology that could cause the image
to look "perfect" on the TV screen (analog cable signal) and yet be
recorded poorly in digital format (computer or stand-alone DVD recorder)?
I recorded The Contender with my DVD recorder and everything was fine. Like some of the others said, maybe check your hardware and also the connections.Originally Posted by pinetop
