I know it's a problem with certain media and certain drives reading that media, but why would a drive completely lock the system just accessing the media?
Using a older DVD player (NEC DV-5700a) and trying to read a burned DVD with data on it (not a movie) when I try to run Nero CD-DVD Speed the system competely locks up to a point even Task Manager can't stop the 'not responding' process and only a restart will work (using the reset button).
I tried the same disc on the other optical drive (NEC ND-3520a and it runs fine. Obviously it's a issue with the older drive, but why does it lock the whole system up even after I eject the disc?
Also, in general when any disc is inserted into any drive that I have had there is the time it takes for the system to reconize the media where ther system is frozen. I have seen that from day one and just lived with it. I assume that is normal, but thius day and age one would thnink that whatever that bug is it would of been dealt with by now.

Win 2k w/sp4
nForce2 MB w/ latest bios.
Ultra DMA 33 enabled on both oprtical drives on the same IDE channel
only 15 processes running at startup
