Hello you guys. Please, somebody can point me directions/softs, so i can convert mpeg files to mpeg 2(or even, mpeg to vob without any losses, if that is possible), without any losses?
Thank you so much!

What kind of Mpg do you have Mpg1? You can use that for DVD as it is Spec ,you may just need to convert the Audio. you really cant make somthing better then what it is You always lose quality everytime you convert.

agreed that you can use an mpeg1 for dvd. in addition to the audio, you might have to adjust the resolution and bitrates to conform to dvd specs for mpeg1 (SIF resolution up to 1856kbps CBR).Originally Posted by canadateckGeorge

So, no matter how, my dvd will have less quality than my original mpeg file? Yes, it is mpeg 1. I don't necessarily have to put the mpeg 1 to mpeg 2 IF i can use the mpeg 1 and at least dont loss quality in the dvd that i want to author using this mpeg file.
Thanks -
If the MPG is MPEG1, you don't have to re-encode and lose any quality. You also will not improve the quality either by authoring and burning the DVD compliant files to a DVDOriginally Posted by Bruxo

If it's VCD Spec mpg1, you're fine - just author with TDA (that will take care of resampling the audio). If not, you have to reencode which will reduce quality, regardless of what DVD compliant you choose as output format.

Hi. Yes, it is mpeg 1. I figure out that i could not improve the quality by recording mpeg 1 on dvd, but, that's no my intent. My intent is only record on dvd-r, cause i need to record this on dvd format, and this dvd must be readable in most dvd players. But all my tests so far, resulted in bad quality of video(little squares, lots of little squares), or stuttered video playback, all that, using Tmpegenc and Maestro.Originally Posted by jyn999

Mpeg1 to dvd-r, without loss of quality compared to the original mpeg 1... is something possible? There is other method, without using Tmpegenc and Maestro? I read lost of faqs, but it's not really easy to follow properly some of them... most faqs donse't allows us to see all the settings that are needed. -
Again, if it's VCD spec mpeg1, authoring with TDA will not affect the quality. If it's mpeg1, but not VCD spec, you have to reencode, reducing quality.
TDA doesn't (can't) reencode, so it will either author to DVD in the quality it is, or simply refuse to author it at all.

Thanks. So, i have to use TMPGEnc DVD Author instead of only TMPGEnc, that's it? In the other forum, they told me to use TMPGEnc...Originally Posted by mats.hogberg

Thanks a lot -
if you are going to settle on mpeg1 and VCD resolution, then you should at least maximize your bitrate (only if coming down from a higher bitrate). mpeg1 for dvd lets you go up to 1856kbps. if you have an mpeg1 at higher-than-VCD "standard" bitrates, then you still might not need to re-encode -- your Authoring application should give you an idea of whether it passes the "DVD Spec" test...Originally Posted by mats.hogbergGeorge

TMPGEnc is for creating mpegs (perhaps for source material for a DVD - TMPGEnc DVD Author is used when you already have the source material, and want to create a DVD out of it. I'm under the impression you might already have the suitable source material at hand (your mpeg), but I'm mistaken maybe ?Originally Posted by Bruxo
