  1. Help!

My original TMPGENC MPG1 file (from either DVD rip or VHS capture) plays flawlessly, a/v sync is solid.

My problem is that I then use TMPGENC's MPG Tools to slice the vid into 4 seperate files.
File 1 a/v sync is still solid
File 2 a/v sync is barely off
File 3 a/v sync is now noticable
File 4 a/v sync is now distracting

It happens consistently when I cut into 4 pieces, on both my AMD and INTEL systems.

    Any ideas?

  2. cut on the interleaved frames only

TMPGEnc will not identify these for you so you will need to open the file in VirtualDub and establish the EXACT time of the proper frame to cut on. VirtualDub displays an [I] next to the time when you are in an interleaved frame.

once you map out the exact time position then go to TMPGEnc and use those times to set your cut positions

  4. Unfortunately that didn't work. I re-captured and re-encoded a VHS tape. The encoded file comes out great from TMPGENC, so the sync is NOT getting lost on capture or by the encoding process.

I used VirtualDub to find an I frame to cut on, entered that time into TMPGENC and the resulting file still have an ever so slight a/v sync issue. Again, the original uncut MPG1 file is dead on, no sync problems at all.

    Any other ideas?

Is there a better tool to cut the MPG file with?

  5. :-? i have also encounter this problem with my ati all-in-one raedeon ddr. the only program i found to actually work is dvtools. however u cannot specify frame to cut. only size of file in increments of sector size. it took a few tries but i got it to cut on the frame i needed to split. but nero finds second disk to not be correct for vcd and wants to re-encode it. that is where i am right now with this. both files do play with winDVD3 with no sync problems. i have tried m2-edit, power-vcr2, ulead media studio, vcd cutter, and some i probably forgot. all returned progressive audio sync problems. some more than others. the only other fix is to do two recordings. stop/start on scene i want to split.

I don't know if you're still having probs--I gave up on the Tmpgenc cutter--always got sync probs. I switched to VCD cutter 4.04. After you cut the files and past them all together (which is very very easy) you run it through tmpgenc's multiplexer to "smooth" things over, its kind of choppy at the cut points if you don't. This saves you the hassle of going through virtual dub and then re-encoding the whole thing--thats fine for people with lots of time (not this guy) Oh yeah, this works with MPEG-1 files with bit rates between 1.15 and 2.2 Kb/s (haven't tested it with any other settings) Good luck!
