Hello. I'm really new to burning DVD's but have been able to burn some. I have a DRU 710a sony DL burner and I'm using Nero Vision 2 burning movies. My only question is some of my files are over 4 GB at which point Nero Visions asks me if I want to reduce quality to "long play" to make it fit. 3382 kbps. I was wondering will this make my quality really poor and if so is there an easy way to make them smaller ? I've tried using DVD decrypter and shrink with no success at all. The files are AVI files. Nero automatically converts them so I don't really want to convert them to MPEG 2 to shrink them. Is there something that would shrink an AVI file ?

If you don't want to convert them why use Nero Vision? Just make a DVD data disc and put the AVI files on there.

Is your file system NTFS? fat32 only supports single files (whatever format) up to 4gb.

Are you trying to burn a DVD-Video from those AVI files? If so, you need to author them first ...don't use Nero to encode. Check through the tools section for an authoring app that'll open an AVI file and generate the DVD files. Or you could encode to MPEG2 as a separate step, then author/burn.
If you're trying to just burn them on a disc and don't plan to play the disc on a set-top player, then just burn the disc in Nero as a DVD-ROM and not a DVD-Video disc. Biiiiiiiiig difference in how Nero handles the two
