What are your results with this combo? I just got a sample 2-pack from RIMA and had no luck with either burning at MAX (which gets up to 12x, since the media tells DVD-Decrypter it can). One failed during the write, one during the verify.
However, the NEC3500 threads are making me jealous. Anyone have any luck with the RITEKG05 white hub-printable on the Pioneer 108?

Beartums...Should loook for the thread I posted with G05's at 12x on NEC3500...wasnt good.
At 8x they're great...should have tried what the media was rated... The media did not tell your drive that it was capable of being burned at 12x, by the way...That's your firmware.

Hi,
Currently I have over 500 RitekG05s burned at max speed on my DVR 108 without any problems. Maybe 4-5 coasters during burning. Some of the discs have minor surface scratches but still burn and play OK. Could be a potential problem for picky DVD players though. Despite all comments RitekG05 is a descent media for its price and has the best printable surface out of a dozen other printable media I've used so far. No need to mention the results are dependant to a great extent on the burner you use. After ~3000 burns my recipe for problem free results is simple: Pioneer burner /all models/ and RecordNow DX 4.6 .

Fandim: Thanks. Don't know how I missed that thread, but I can see the NEC doesn't seem to like it at 12x either. Also, does my firmware think that it can burn ANY 8x-rated media at 12x? Or does it differentiate between types of 8x media?
Gregg: When you say you are burning at max, does that mean 12x on your burner? Or is it burning at 8x? What firmware are you using? Thanks. -
Firmware varies media to media... It might say G05 8x -R is good for 12x, or TY media 8x is good at 16x. It's not all 8x media burnable at 12x..just goes by media ID.

I have two Pioneer 108s (firmware v. 1.18) and one Aopen 1608/ARR (Firmware v. 1.6) and I have the following results with the Ritek G05 Hub Printable:
Pioneer 108: Will burn at 12X but the resulting disk has freeze and pixilation errors. Burns error free at 8X.
Aopen 1608/ARR: Will burn at 8X but the resulting disks are unusable for the above reasons. Burns fine at 4X.
All tests were run with Nero v. 6.3.1.20 and DVD Decrypter v 3.5.1.0 The burnt disks are tested immediately (before Epson R300 printing) on a Cyberhome CH-DVD-300. The burners are in home built systems with AMD XP 2500+, 2200+ and 1700+ processors using Windows XP home on the two faster machines and Windows ME on the XP 1700+. The two Pioneer 108s are in the faster systems. -
I have had problems with the combo of G05 and DVDDecrypter 3.5.1.0 at any speed Max down to 1x. I tried burning with CloneDVD2 and the burns verified just fine. Just seems to be this media. Not sure what to make of it but there you go.....weird.

I hate to point out the obvious, but G05s ARE 8X media. It burns very well at 8X on 3500 and 108. Clearly it is marginal at 12X so if you really think you want to risk the degradation in disc life that comes with higher speed burning, you should go to TY. These seem to be more tolerant of overburning.
Still a few bugs in the system... -
I have burned two spindles at 8x with excellent results. All I can say. 8)

Chas0039, that would be why I said...

The discs start burning at 6X, at ~386MB the speed goes up to 8X, at ~2000MB it goes up to 12X. The same applies not only for RitekG05 but for other 12X capable brands too.
I'm using only the latest official firmware /1.18/.

!!! Using Cyberhome for testing is a very bad idea !!!
This player is known to have numerous issues with recorded DVD discs and especially with Riteks. Most of the very few complaints I've had from my customers so far came from Cyberhome owners.
If you're not short of time you can always burn them at lower speeds like 4X or 6x if your software allows it.
Enjoy! -
Gregg,
The Cyberhome is the best possible test for my situation. It is a duplicate of one I use at work for teaching. If the burned DVDs will not work in it then they are of no use to me. There are a number of brands of DVD players available on campus and I have found the Cyberhome more tolerant of burned DVDs than many. This is especially significant when I am using disks that originated in the UK or Germany. Most of the more expensive players reject PAL video even if it is on region free burned DVDs. On the other hand, the Cyberhome plays them without complaint and with the region hack it will even play the originals.. I suppose it just goes to show that one should use the tool appropriate for the job. Thank you for the warning, however. If I have problems with the Cyberhome then I will try burning with some brand other than Ritek. -
For the sake of the extra 10 secs that is saved burning at 12X over 8X on a 108 ( 1.18 ) is it really worth it....
Not bothered by small problems...
