Prodisc 8x from Meritline

Just got some Inkjet printable Prodisc 8x from Meritline. The problem is when I try to print on the disc. It appears that the ink is not being absorbed by the white surface. Has anyone else had this problem.

My Prodisc 4x has sort of a matte finish, but these 8x have more of a glossy finish.

I have heard people letting these discs dry for VERY long periods of time.

I would do that but the printing looks terrible, it is essentially a bunch of ink spots on the disc.

But I think 888888 might be right, these may be thermal printable.

My brain farted. . . . I meant thermal printable . . . .

These disc have been a pain. . . . I first had to flash my burner for it to be able to burn them. Now that I got that working . . it appears that I may have gotten the wrong ones after all.

No one every said DVDs were easy . . . . sigh

The link that you provided do take us to the White Inkjet Printable Prodiscs. I have been using themfor quite some time and have not seen the problem that you are mentioning.

aanaravs or anyone who has used these discs before, can you discribe the surface. The 8x ones I recieved has a slightly glossy finish.

The 4x Prodiscs that I have recieved have more of a matte finish.

These 8X Prodiscs can be any of 4 different media codes. It does not suprise me that you received other than you expected. Supermedia, Rima and Meritline all have trouble getting a straight answer as to what they will get in each shipment. I would avoid them; some of the media codes do not play well with certain burners. Now you have found an additional reason.

Just a thought -- and you've probably already tried it -- but I used to get these spots when I would forget to select the "best photo quality". ALso, there's usually an option to say that you are printing on cd/dvds rather than paper.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but I figure if I forgot, then anybody can (it helps my self esteem).

Its definitely a surface problem. Its close to 24 hours since I tried to print on the disc. I can wipe it with a clean cloth and remove any ink on the surface. It looks brand new.

Now if I could only get Meritline to respond to my e-mails concerning this issue. I should have listened to those who warned me about Meritline.

dfluke, you're not alone. My friend did also order 400 of 8x white inkjet printable Prodisc... and they were turned out exactly what you got... I told him better call meritline or email them to have an exchange...

Sent my disks back on Saturday. Waiting to see what Meritline is going to do. A lot of people have said that Meritline is an up-and-up company so I'm waiting to see what they are going to do. This could end up being very expensive disks or a very expensive lesson.

Well....at least you are half happy. I told you these codes can vary all over the place. Maybe you drive will like F01, some do. They also seem to vary in quality so maybe yours are a good batch.

i've been using the prodisc, because i bought a 100 of them(big mistake), and have never had a printing problem with them. However, I find I better not burn any more than 4 gigs on them, or the picture jumps all over the place at the end.

If you don't want to print and you don't mind a shiny surface they TY from Rima are always a consistent quality from a company with superior service. If you want a different -R then Ritek 8X G05s from any source are a good buy for NEC 3500s and Pioneer 108s. If you have a different drive, check Cdfreaks and see how they work for your burner. These discs always seem to be the same media code and no one has complained yet. Many weekends, Newegg will have these a a good price.

If you can tolerate 4X then Prodisc seems to be either S03 or MCC, both of which are good. S03 burns much better with a 3500 or a 108, but scans from older burners are OK and consistently readable. Rima would be my source here again as they are usually able to tell you what code you will get. Prodisc has problems with printable surfaces but their matte surface is much easier to keep clean compared to shiny. I will be very annoyed when these are gone and 8X is all that is left.

Every time I look for a deal on +R I get stuck with Ritek R03 or worse. These vary all over the place and can change quality in the middle of the stack. Most other good +R are next to impossible to find as they are sold branded and the company changes media codes often so I avoid the +R problems.

I have yet to find a good -RW so I stick to +RW from Ritek. They always seem to be W11 code and I got my last batch for only 32 cents each, delivered. The scan from these is in the low 20s for PI; remarkably good on my Liteon.

Also looking for a decent (and consistant) brand of printable media. I was using Prodisc 4X and loved them for the first 48 burns. Now all I get is coasters! Using a Liteon 851S.

I use printable disks pretty much all the time. I liked the Prodisk S03 but don't like the S04 and from what I have read here the F01 is not very good nor is the MCC. I can't seem to find S03 disks anymore but wish I could as I had great luck with them.

I notice you recommend Ritek for non-printables but not for printables, is there a reason for that? I was thinking of trying them but if there is problems with their printables don't want to waste the money.

I have no direct experience with Ritek printables so I didn't mean to scare you away from them, just the G04s as they have a rather variable reputation. If you are looking for printables you should do a search and maybe find out what others are using or start a new thread with that as the question. Don't forget to provide your type of printer. Most of what I read here is what people are having trouble with as those of us who are content (read TY and old S03s) don't post our good luck. You might check with Supermediastore for S03s but don't take their web site at its word. It is not always accurate as to what it is selling. Also Rima tries very hard to accomodate you when you want a particular media code. The last I checked they had a product, 1624-50 that might still be S03. Also MCC has a pretty good reputation so you might want to check for scans using your burner at CDfreaks.
