If you checkout the DVD Player compatibility list (in the "other" section of this website) look for your DVD Player and see if it will play CD-R's or only certain types.

  3. Not all stand-alone DVD players are designed to playback CD-R or CD-RW media. Those that aren't designed with this capability play these types of media erratically. However, due to the optical properties of CD-RW, it is more likely to work on one of these drives than CD-R media.

Most DVD-ROM drives are designed to read CD-R and CD-RW media. The first generation DVD-ROM drives weren't and had almost exactly the same problem as many stand-alone DVD player do now.

When you said "record"CD-R - do you mean audio CD-R? Most DVD Players play all layered audio CD-R's. Video or Super Video CD-R's are something completely different!!!
