How to copy two or more movies onto one DVD+R?

I don't quite understand exactly what you have as source, and what you want to acheive.

Assuming you are using your original disks as your source, rip both of them to the hard drive, then use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode to put just the movies from each onto one disk. You will probably find that the amount of compression required to this will be very high, and will therefore reduce (possibly substantially) the quality.

You could use DVD Shrink to create a DVD-9 disk, then use DVD-ReBuilder to reduce the size instead. Better quality, although still a tight squeeze.

It would probably not be worth it as you will have to compress the he-double hocky sticks out of it to do so which would then lose picture quality.

this is how I authored my first dvd:
- I planned to have 2 DVDs into 1 DVD, so approx 2.3GB per movie.
- Used DVD shrink or DVDClone to backub to HDD (remove all extra stuff)
- created some background pics using wallpapers of the movies
- Used TMPGEnc DVD Author to create menus for the DVD
- Authored to a DVD image file for a test
- Burned using Nero

learnings:
- Lost my subtitles (the tool doesn't support them)
- TMPGEnc DVD Author by default keeps a yukki yellow color to indicate
menu selection.
- No music for menu background
- TMPGEnc DVD author menu also takes some place, cosider it when
sizing up.
- Calculate exact size prehand to avoid recoding at the later stage and
to produce a 'best fit' DVD

There's quite a few authoring tools that do, so use one of them if subtitles are important.

TMPGEnc DVD Author by default keeps a yukki yellow color to indicate menu selection

There's a couple of threads here that show how to manually "adjust" this to any colour you want by modifying the IFO files, or use a different authoring software.

No music for menu background

In TDA, you need to make a motion menu. If you just want audio, then you need to create an MPEG of a still picture (your background) and your audio. Then add this MPEG files as your motion menu and you get a stic image with audio for the menu. Or use a different authoring software.

Calculate exact size prehand to avoid recoding at the later stage and to produce a 'best fit' DVD

Use VideoHelp.com's Bitrate Calculator, then subtract 100 from whatever video bitrate it gives you. This should allow plenty of room for the menu if using TDA, depending on how many motion menus you integrate into your project.
