    Hello,
I have two questions about average bitrate:

    1. How can you see the average bitrate of a mpeg-2 file (I can see max. bitrate) ?

    2. My DV tape is about 1.5 hour long (LP mode), after encoding from avi to DVD files (mpeg-2 files) with bitrate settings of max. 8000kbps and average 6000kbps, they don't fit in one 4.7GB DVD disc. But a movie DVD could run more than 2 hours with much better quality (max. 9800kbps), how come ? Is it due to average bitrate ?

    1. use bitrate viewer
    2. yes , partially -- more importaint is the quality of the source material, a DV camera is not the same as 35mm film scan

  3. 1. use bitrate viewer
    2. A commercial DVD can be (and usually is) on dual layer media. You can now get dual layer burners and disks but media is expensive and compatibility with standalone DVD players suspect. As for fitting your movie on a single sided DVDr, use a bitrate calculator like the one here Use the resulting bitrate to set the AVERAGE bitrate.
