  1. I have a Sony DVP-NS425P player and I try to play a backup of a movie I have and it says, "Cannot play disc due to region limitations" I looked for the hack here and found one but many people said it didn't work, and I don't have a laptop or computer available that can be hooked up to it.

Is there anyway to BURN a DVD so that it's region-free.

    The help would be great,
    Thanks.

    FREAKIN' SONY'S
If you are talking about a stand-alone DVD Player...and an "older" model....then they are by far the WORST players when it comes to playing ANYTHING "R".....whether it be DVDR or even CDR.
The backups you are making ARE most likely region free(if you are using DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter)....try making a backup WITH the region your Sony is assigned to see if that helps.
    It may not though.

  3. I'm pretty sure it isn't the region for the Sony... My uncle got the movie while he was in Austria. It is in English (the audio) but the menus aren't and when u start up the movie it gives you a choice for different languages near Austria.

Soo... As it goes, any other suggestions?

    EDIT
Oh and it plays ever other backup and Movie type (VCD, SVCD, KVCD, SKVCD) very well.

What(program) are you using to back up your movies?
Have you ever backed up a PAL/Region 2(Austria) movie before?
    Are you in an NTSC/Region 1 area(USA)?

  5. I am having the same problem. I have the DV-PNS425P and I have the DVD files for a movie that will not play. Here is what i did:

I used AnyDVD/CloneDVD to extract the titles I wanted out of the DVD files and made sure the right options were checked in AnyDVD when i did it. There is an option for Regions, so i selected it. Anyway, I burned it 4 times and my DVD player and PS2 both said it could not play because of region. Any ideas?

When you say you checked it....did you give the DVD a region or did you make it region free?
I have absolutely ZERO experience with PS2's but from what I've read they are just as much a pain in the butt as some Sony DVD players.
    If you used a +R in the Sony....try a -R.
If you made it region free....give it a region code.
If you gave it a region...make it region free. There is no use burning the same wrong thing over and over again....even with different brands.
The newest version of DVDDecrypter can take care of your region settings AND it may be able to help you make your disc into a DVD-ROM (see booktype ot bitsetting in the glossary on the left) instead of a +/-R disc like you are burning now....depending on your drive manufacturer.

  7. On the AnyDVD options, there is a section to set REGION and there is a section of checkbox options. I left the "Default REGION" set at 1. I checked all options that mentioned Region. There was 2 of them, one that mentioned software and one that mentioned hardware.

I only tried the PS2 just because I wanted to see if it was just the Sony. I am using DVD -R's. I do this all the time, but this is the first time this has happened.

I burned the same thing trying different options each time. The thing is that my computer runs it fine every time.

How is DVDDecryptor different than AnyDVD? Have you used AnyDVD? Http://www.slysoft.com

    I've never used AnyDVD.
Have any of your home-burned DVD's worked in your Sony?

Test your DVDs in something not associated with Sony (Sony and DVDs are a bad combination).

  11. Well, the Sony's are the only DVD players I have. So if it doesnt work on Sony, I am SOL.

Ah, guess what? Sony makes both dvd players & the ps2, perhaps they used the same drive?

I suggest just making a copy with dvdshrink, its free, it comes out region free.

Ps2's have an action replay disk you can buy at any game store to make your ps2 region free.

  13. Well, I used to use dvdshrink, but it failed a few times. Someone here in another forum someone suggested AnyDVD and I never looked back. It has the dvd REGION setting on it. I am beginning to think that part of the problem may be that I did not rip the dvd files from the original DVD. I have the DVD files on my hard drive (ie VIDEO_TS directory). I just need to get this thing playing on my DV-PNS425P and my PS2 if possible.

run the VIDEO_TS files on decrypter by using ISO READ, then burn with whatever burning program you have. you can create a ISO image then just burn it with decrypter. decrypter will make it region free.

  15. So you are saying to:

    1) Use DVDDecrytor (ISO READ function) on the VIDEO_TS files.

    2) Burn it with CloneDVD or whatever? or then convert to ISO with (what program?) and then burn it with DVDDecryptor?

I am a little confused about what you are saying. Should I create an ISO or not? If so, what program are you saying to use? As I said, my normal process is to run AnyDVD in the background and run CloneDVD to break down the files and rip them. I then dump them to my hard drive in VIDEO_TS format and then burn them to DVD with CloneDVD.

Gee...I had NO idea that Sony used ONE drive for each and every item they have ever made, do make, or will make in the future.
    Good to know.....

    1. Run the VIDEO_TS folder with DVD DECRYPTER. Don't use ANYDVD.
    2. Open up DECRYPTER, RIP that VIDEO_TS folder in the FILE MODE.
    3. After it's done ripping those files, you can then burn it with any burning software.

If you want you could also RIP the VIDEO_TS FILES with DECRYPTER in the ISO READ MODE. With that you will create a ISO IMAGE which can be burned with DECRYPER in the ISO WRITE MODE.

There is no need to use ANYDVD for this process. Here is a guide for DECRYPTER:

  18. Do I have to set any options within DVDDecrypter or do I accept the defaults? I noticed an option under tools call region tool or something.

  19. OK. Here is what I did:

    1) Open the VIDEO_TS dir with DVDDecrypter. I used ISO READ mode. I created the ISO.

    2) SInce I was not sure if I neded to tell DEVDecrypter to set it to region free, I extracted the ISO file to the hard drive and ran the TOOLS > REGION PATCH and set it to REGION FREE for each applicable file.

    3) I then burned the VIDEO_TS dir with CloneDVD.

It did NOT work. Same result. Any ideas? DVDDecrypter would not allow me to look at my hard drive for the VIDEO_TS dir, so I had to read from one of the DVD's that didnt work previously.

Any ideas???? I am stumped and have now wasted 6 DVD's.
