Please read the guides before asking questions.

  3. Try using my guide as well, it's from a newbie point of view, the basic is, first you create the MPG, then before burning you use either TSCV or VCDEasy and they add the Chapters to it.

Well then explain why it didn't work. What program did you use to author the chapters? Did you get an error? When you push the next button what happens? You have to be specific or else no one can help you.

  6. I've tried to do lots of research on this before posting (yes, that includes reading all of the help sections on this site and looking through the first 10 pages of this topic). My question is this: Is there a way to create multiple chapters once I've encoded my AVI files into a single MPEG1?
I've used MediaStudio to create a nice (single MPEG) video with scene transitions and titles, but it looks to me like you have to have separate MPEG files (or AVI) to create chapters.
If I don't combine the files together using MediaStudio, and I simply create 10 MPEGs, I can easily create chapters using NERO's really nice interface.
I'm using Nero to burn and Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.5 to create the MPG files. I (of course) have TMPGEnc and have tried to use that when it is working - but I can't do the scene transitions and effects that I want...
Sorry if this IS in the tutorial, but I guess if it was, I just didn't get it.
    Thanks for the assist!

    Omega,

You are probably using large fonts. I had the same problem - couldn't find the "Advanced" option.

I switched to small fonts (almost unreadable @ 1280 x 1024) and I found it.

I believe its even listed as a "bug" of sorts in the documentation...

  10. So is there a way to separate an MPG movie file into unequal parts? I want to start the chapter right at each scene transition that I created in MediaStudio, some chapters are 1 minute, some are 5 minutes. VCDCutter only cuts into equal segments.
    Thanks.

    YES, by using "entrypoints".

These are tracks. They are NOT chapters. Nero cannot make chapters. The whole idea of "chapters" is that they are "seamless". Multitrack VCDs ARE NOT seamless.

You can create chapters with VCDImager or one of its GUIs (TSCV or VCD Easy). The above links is a comprehensive article on how to make chapters with entrypoints on a VCD and a description of how they work.

Yes, im agree with Virtualis. Chapters are not the same that tracks. Thats the first thing that i thougth when i started to create vcds, i said: well, ill create chapters cutting the mpg in many "mini-mpgs", and just create a menu with Nero, and thats all!! But, for obvis reasons, it is not the same. and, doing that is so tired!! it takes hours and hours cutting a 2hrs movie into 15 or 20 mpgs!!!!!

  13. I've been using tscv to make chapters on vcd, but when i play it on a standalone the chapter doesn't change if you play the movie from beginning to end. This means that you could watch an hour of the movie and if you then press "next" chapter on the remote you come to chapter2 that maybe is 10 min in to the movie. Any tips?

  14. You've unfortunately hit the limitations with chaptering using the entrypoints system. This is described in detail in the chaptering article in my article series linked above (http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd ).

There are ways to minimise the confusion but not fundamentally overcome the problem: e.g., no "next" or "prev" but the user must go back to a "scene select" menu (by pressing "return" say) or can directly select the chapter by pressing it's numerical button.

  16. You can get it from this site in fact, http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdeasy.htm

All you need to do is drag the mpegs you want to have in your VCD into VCDEasy, go to the chapters tab and input the chaptering times you want, and press Go.

It will then write the bin/cue image file for you and can also burn it in CDRDAO if you have it set up. Oherwise burn it in CDRWin or FireBurner, or in Nero, by buring the .cue file as an image (File menu->Burn Image)
