  1. I need to create a video slideshow with aprox. 400 pictures, some video, music in the background, with transitions between the photos. I'd like to have the capability of text overlays, and be able to burn the final project to a DVD, complete with menus. What software(s) will allow me to accomplish all of this. Thank you for your help.

I'm new to these forums, so I'm sorry I have such a late answer--I hope it can still help you. I was able to create a slideshow with transitions, audio, and burn it to DVD with the software that came with my Sony DRX-500UL burner: ArcSoft ShowBiz and Sonic MyDVD. The only problem I have is when played on a DVD player that does not have progressive scan (and this may be a problem for which there is no solution, I don't know enough yet), the edges of some colors seem to "jump" back and forth a little.

We're finishing up a winter project --- a 7500 picture slideshow(s) for our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I've done a couple of test runs using Ulead DVD Pictureshow 2, which I purchased for the project, and I've been really pleased with the results.

Lots of options available, but pretty straighforward as well. BTW, we did a lot of experimentation with scanning resolutions, and the general consensus was that 1800 dpi (we were actually scanning slides with a dedicated slide scanner) translated into the best looking shots on the TV set. Must have something to do with the way Ulead DVDP2 preps the pictures to fill the screen --- even with the reduced scan lines of the TV set this seemed to be the case.

...anyway, Ulead DVDP2 would be a good choice for you, I think.

  5. Thank you for the replies. Better late than never....I still haven't gotten that far yet anyway. Still scanning pictures! Thanks again. I'll have to look into those programs. Adobe's will be out of reach for this project, but thanks for the info all the same.
