  1. just wondering which 1 is better and what's the difference between the two. i know its simple but my brain needs to be made sure of. thanks :P

  2. The SVCD format has a higher resolution, with higher bitrate, and the potential for VBR 2 (or more) pass encoding.

    DVD resolution 720x480 bitrate up to 9000 (2hrs per DVD)*
    SVCD resolution 480x480 bitrate up to 2500 (45-50 min per CD)*
    CVD resolution 352x480 bitrate up to 2500 (55-60min per CD)*
    VCD resolution 352x240 bitrate of 1150 (74 min on standard CD)*

    *or so - also 80 min CDs can hold another 5-10minutes

    The higher resolution helps give a sharper picture on SVCD as opposed to VCD, but the main difference is the bitrate. SVCD gives a smoother picture with less noise (done well).

    We are talking about standard version here...once you get into XVCD or KVCDs ect things are not so clear cut.

    SVCD is a dodge Viper
    VCD is a old pickup truck
    Its always funny when it happens to someone else
