Burning DVD-R to hard drive to make chapter searches

Hello,
Please excuse me for my ignorance about this. I have read many articles and still have not found the answers to my questions.
This is the deal. I have a VHS concert video from the 80's that I put on DVD-R with a Panasonic DMR-E30. I finalized it and put a title on it.
What I would like to do now is put chapter searches on the DVD-R. Right now I can fast forward in 5 minute incruments but would love to have it show the songs at the first and be able to push MENU and go to a certain song. Add chapter searches.
I have DVDit and was wondering if I could add chapters with that program.
I will get what program is neccessary to buy because I have some older out of print vids I would like to do this with plus my daugthers dancing VHS.
How can I put the DVD-R on my hard drive? I have a couple other programs on my computer that try to read it first. I have PowerDVD, and Dvd xcopy for back ups.
I have a Sony Burner on my computer and the Mad dog Dvd Rom.
Could someone give me some tips on how to get started? It would be very much appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated.
I know this takes time to tell a person who doesn't really know what is going on some time. I saw post of person trying to make a DVD for the first time. It is frusterating to the ones who do know.
I really want to learn this and buy the software needed to make the chapter searches.
I would pay someone 50 dollars(paypal, money order,etc) to email me and help me with this
I will buy whatever program I need. I have the DVDit PE now but don't know how to use it correctly.
