  1. Maybe my computer is getting old or maybe my version of TMPEGEnc is faulty but has anyone else noticed lately that the AVI movies that are downloaded from the internet have increasingly become impossible to encode to VCD makeable MPEGs. For the last couple of months everything I have downloaded ends up with a glitch that screws up the encoding. Is it just me or is there a conspiracy going on???

  3. Hey ASDF

Are you saying that people who put these movies on the internet do it purposely with flaws or don't care or what??

  5. Use panasonic encoder if Tmpgenc 'sometimes' doesn't work. Panasonic takes more time, though.

And Xvid movies are impossible to be encoded into VCD by all encoders. You'll have to convert them first.

then you must be an illusion...XVids can be converted without too much hassle...in fact, the first one I tried gave no problems whatsoever.

AVI's are easy to convert, haven't had any problems yet. Of course it depends on your source, many AVI downloads are CORRUPT! That's all I can say, especially the systems that use many peers at once to do multiple downloads on the same file (hint hint). If you always treat the AVI as being broken, then you won't have any problems converting it( of course you are going to need some space in the conversion process ).

As I've said before, it's easier to backup your own DVD than it is to d/l something and convert.

  9. Found the reason and fixed the prob.!
The errors are due to incorrect codecs. I installed the right codecs and finally got the problem solved.

  10. Noticed the talk on AVI files being corrupt. AVI files can get corrupted while downloading (e.g. IRC). Sometimes a faulty download/leeching software will also screw up the file. Kazaa sometimes screws up. Morpheus quite a lot of times, IRC... if you don't do it well (like resumed the wrong file) the whole file will die. Long video clips >20min long are very susceptible due to their sheer size of >100mb

I don't know how bittorrent does it, but it always gives perfect quality files. (must be due to the long startup checking time)
