  3. Pinnacle did has not fix the import mpeg2 over 2.8g issue.

To those who don't know what this is. If you encode with other encoder and import the mpeg2 to add menu etc. It will re-encode if the file is greater then 2.8 gig.

This has been an issue for sometime and they still have not fix this. They are too busy with other projects then to address this issue.

My advice only use studio 8 for editing and adding transitions. Do not use for authoring. I liked the authoring simplicity but I will search for an other authoring program like ulead movie factory 2.

Also pinnacle uses type 2 avi and ulead uses type1 if there is converter for type 2 to type 1 let us know. I have seen type 1 to type 2.

  4. What aout Pinnacle's TRex ? I don't know too much about it but it does some conversions.

BTW: How can I check if AVI is type 1 or type 2 ?

  5. After wasting a lot of my time and money on Studio8 I'm convinced when they get to version 99.9.9 they may actually have a working program.

  6. Hi frederic,
thanks for the tip on MPEG-2 larger on 2.8GB. I had problem importing MPEG-2 in PS8 and never knew why. My file is usually 4GB in size.

Bob W, I know how you feel with PS8, I am having a little trouble with neoDVD at this time but I will take the time to master it due to its supersonic encoding speed. For the moment, PS8 is the only software I use to capture, edit, author DVD (the last part takes forever). I also have ULEAD, MOVIE FACTORY 2, but never had time to try them.

I will check on the new rev to see what new features or bug fixes are in there.

  7. It all depends on what are you trying to do with PS8. It is great for editing and authoring DVD's from DV camcorder (DV AVI). Not good for authoring MPEG captures (TV or DVD files). There are better tools for this...

  8. PS8 does have a few issues but mpg file size of 2.8G is
not one of them. I just recently imported a 4.2G mpg file
with mux mp2 audio into PS8 and successfully burned a DVD.
In fact, I could not get the same file into DVDit (LE) and
Power Director Pro (DE) because both of them complain
about project size. I think these two do not support mp2
audio and will attempt to re-encode into LPCM which make
the whole thing too big for a DVD.
