  1. I'm using a Sony DRU-500AX, burning to 2x Maxell DVD-R (from Meritline) and when trying to burn 4 gig DVD data files in Toast and Discribe I get the following error message:

    "The drive reported an error
    Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x0C, 0x08
    WRITE ERROR - RECOVERY FAILED"

I've done a number of tests and it works when I burned a 1.5 GB data DVD, but anything over 2GBs gives me that error.

Anyone encounter this problem w/ the DRU-500 (or any other burners for that matter)? Ways around it? I don't think it's a media problem because it happens with both the Sony DVD-RW as well as the Maxell DVD-R. This is really fustrating as I have a ton of data I need to backup.

    I'm running OS 10.2.4 on a G4 400mhz, 640 Ram, Toast Ti 5.2 and Discribe 5.0.31. Any ideas?

The only time I've ever gotten that error was with bad media. I had a bad spindle of CD-Rs and basically that is the error that Toast gave me to say that the media was crap.

  3. Bad DVDs. Try burning them at 1X speed.
