  1. Is it true that this software uses 2 discs when making backup of a DVD? Or, is it related to dual layer mode DVD's.

    I'm looking for a good program for home use, and this one looked promising until I saw the many related posts about needing 2 blanks for copies.

    Please explain, and or give me an alternative for a NEWBIE to DVD's.

    Thanks much.

  2. Yes it takes two disc but only for dual layer DVD's which is mostly the case these days. There is a list of single layer DVD movies here and they would only require one disc to copy.

    If you want to keep the menu and extras then I would suggest using DVD95 Copy http://www.dvd95copy.com and if you are happy with the movie only then there is DVD2one http://www.dvd2one.com/ which I believe the new version will also keep the menu as an option. Both of these programs work very well and are fast. I mostly use DVD95 Copy these days.

  3. BobW, thanks for the reply.

    I'll look in to the DVD95 software, as I am looking for something that is easy and does copy as it should.

    BTW; are you the same BobW with the DRU500A issues. I bought the same burner, and it has not been updated from the "d" rev of the firmware. I'm starting to configure a system strictly for burning CD's & DVD's.

    Thanks...

    Yeah I'm the stupid one that screwed up his player by updating the firmware. If your Sony is working good for you my advise is don't mess with it.

    BTW I build a second system using a micro atx motherboard and tiny desktop case just for DVD burning. I put the Sony in that system and bought a Pioneer 105 for my main system. This second system is great in that I designed it to be silent (I can hardly hear it just the drives clicking away) and it fits in an audio stack being the same size as my Sony 5.1 audio system. I then got an IOgear switch that allows me to switch between my two computers (via a keyboard hotkey) and share the same mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

  5. You know I should also have mention there is another program you may be interested in. Its called Instant Copy and in the states you can get it for $17 here http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=20353177&loc=105

    I have this program however don't use it much simply because it is the slowest of all the three programs I suggested but it does a fine job.

  7. BobW, Spiderman2k1, thanks for the replies and input.

    BobW, I thought that Instant Copy is not able to copy CSS protected DVD's. And what are the differences to Instant Copy & Instant Copy CD/DVD?

    My burner has been idle as I was sourcing media, and from the threads here, I ended up getting RITEK (100) and ACCU (50) for testing; from RIMA.COM. And I have to stay with this burner, as the BOSS won't allow another purchase, if you know what I mean.

    Now I'm at the building system dedicated to burning stage and have this from another post;

    I have a spare rig with a P3/600 and 256mb RAM (PC100), that I would like to use as my "burning" system.

    A few questions;
    1/ Should I upgrade m/board and CPU? If so, suggestions would be appreciated. BTW, I also have a AMD 1.2 rig that could be used.

    2/ What recommendations for HD size, type, cache size and RPM? Is there any advantage to using 7200rpm or can I stay with 5400.

    Thanks again for the input...

    Later...
