I assume no PC-based player will play your AVI, is this correct? You say your avi is 2.25 gig. The bundled applications with the WinTV cards (like the WinTV Go, which is what I have) capture to the old-style AVI files, which have a 2 gigabyte limit. Your avi exceeds this limit. All is not lost, however. The Virtual Dub application (click on tools to the left) understands how to work with the old-style AVI files and can reconstruct the parts that are missing when the file exceeds 2 gig.

If you don't have Virtual Dub already, go to http://www.virtualdub.org and grab a copy of the software. Once installed, open the app and pick File->Open Video File. Select your .avi file and click "Open". You will see a dialog box that says "Reconstructing missing index block" or something similar. Once this is complete (this takes a few minutes on my computer), the box goes away. Now select Video->Full Processing Mode or Video->Fast Recompress (do not select Direct Stream Copy for this). Now select Video->Compression and pick a codec (Virtual Dub defaults to Uncompressed video, I do not recommend this). Configure the codec if applicable by clicking the "Configure" button. OK your way back to the main Virtual Dub screen. Now pick "File->Save as AVI" and save your avi to a different file name. Now any PC based player installed on your computer should be able to play this avi.

Now you should be able to use TMPGEnc to convert this avi file to an mpg file for authoring & burning to VCD. The "How To" guides are a valuable resource for guiding you through this process.
