Sorry for posting this here, but I figured it'd get lost in the hardware section.
So.....have read lots of (confusing) posts on the http://forum.rpc1.org re. flashing a superdrive (04) with either rpc2 or 1 Pioneer firmware.
I guess the reason I'm interested is doing this may get rid of Apple's crippling x2 read speed, making DVD backing up an altogether nicer experience. Also, there are quite a few (non-mac) firmware versions that promise x2 burning on all media. I wouldn't expect to use x1 at x2 speed and get good results, but it eats me up to have to burn x4 media at x1 !!
But I can't seem to find any definitive answers - will it screw up the drive? Can a mac use a non-OEM PIONEER '04?
BTW, I'm using X227 at the moment - does anyone know if the A227 firmware it's based on has the x4 safety fix?
Thanx...
