  1. I am having some trouble encoding with XP,i am doing my regular method to encode my Xvid to svcd with Vdub and TMPGenc, but for some reason my pc just freezes solid after a few mins of encodiong?WTF?
Ive tried pulling the side off my pc to allow more cool air, closing everything i could to free up memory and it still seems to freeze?
TMPGenc is using 100% of my cpu and my pagefile usage is way high, ive only recently started having this problem and have tried installing SP1 to fix it as well as a clean install and it still freezes my pc solid
Has anyone else had similar problems?

On a clean install of XP pro with SP1 and nothing but Vdub & tmpgenc on it still manages to run 100% cpu and freeze.

What could be causing my pc to all of a sudden freeze up,HELP ME!

Would win2k fix my problem or is it possibly a hardware or software issue?

thanks in advance for anyones help with this

Try encoding in another program or running some games. The problem may be that your CPU (or some other component) is overheating (despite you removing the case sides). If you can encode in a different program fine, or run games for a while, you can rule out heat/hardware being the issue.

When you say you did a clean install, by that do you mean just reinstall XP or format your HDD? If you manage to rule out it being a hardware problem, format if you haven't already done so. I find that generally fixes any problems I have

  3. Thanks!

yeah i have tried encoding in a different program
cce using DVD2SVCD and it seems to not freeze but i have not a clue on how to use cce.
The problem is apparent before i formatted XP and also after i installed it clean.

i will try running some games to see if that is the problem.

If it still overheats what do i need to replace my powersupply or maybe just get a bigger cpu fan?

    thanks for the help!

Not sure if this is the answer you need but a bigger power supply is always good........300W min'. What case do you have? full size towers are far superior IMO, to the smaller midi' things. Fans, lots of them are always a good idea too.
Out of interest, what are your temps??, try a couple of different system monitors cos' they can give you duff readings.
System virus scan, sweep with adaware etc etc.
All the usual stuff I know but you might have missed something in your frustration.

That's all I can think of for now.
