  1. Here's the deal. I've got a lot of taped Formula one races which I want to get on my Harddrive so I can burn them as SVCD. I also got a panasonic DV-NS11 camcorder which is about 3-4 years old.

This cam doesn't have standard firewire out but something called I.link which looks like a simple small female connection. The connection with the tv is a obviously a male plug which ends in a SCART connection. I assume that this is Panasonics proprietary solution.

Do I have to go with an analog card in order to capture the races from my VCR and live with the compromise of using the S-VHS out on the camera when I want to save my holiday movies?

Is the software shipped with the card capable of turning the uncompressed file into a SVCD compliant mpeg-2? And is my system up to it? 800 Mhz Celeron 128 Mb Ram 7200 rpm IDE drive and Windows 98?

In short, which card do I choose?

It sounds like your camera is FIREWIRE EQUIPT
The Camcorder connector is not like the one on your firewire card

That is- Its normal to go from 4pins on the camera to SIX on the COMPUTER

    OK?

    Sorry..
    THATS NOT FIRE WIRE

That is a "SEMI-PROPIETARY" COMPOSITE VIDEO OUT with audio out on the SLEEVE and RING connectors
this is the kinda plug you need with one extra SLEEVE connector making yours more proprietary
YOU'LL need to get VIDEO, and 2 audios out've the connector this way

IT'll be composite video out, so your original musings apply...
    Good luck!
