  1. Hi there, I need help and hope you guys can!
My DVd player cannot play SVCD's however I have started using the ISO file mentioned in these boards. This has meant that I can now play SVCD. Here comes the but though! Some of the svcd files I have go over the space allowed on a disc in toast by a small amount meaning that I cannot burn the discs. Are there any solutions to this?
I did have an idea about ripping the mpg file from my bin and editing it in Quicktime Pro (ie cutting the titles off or similar) and then making a new bin file. The problem is though that quicktime pro will not let me edit the mpg. Why would this be? Any help wouod be gratefully accepted.

I was wondering if you could elaborate on how you got your NON SVCD dvd player to PLAY SVCD's!?!?!

to answer your question, you can. Its a bit complicated and it depends on how much "extra" space you want to clip off.

Clipping an MPEG2 requires something other than quicktime however.

    Missing Media Tools
    FFMPEGX
    Jaw MPEG2 Splitter
mpgt GUI mpeg editor - my favorite

you will need to extract the mpeg, and cleave it into pieces, then reassemble your pieces, leaving out the last one which will be what you dont want.

If your over by more than 50 megs, i recommend simply splitting the mpeg in half and then accept the fact you will have one more disk to watch.

Max MPEG size for a .bin to fit onto a 700 meg CD-r is 794.5 megs so just say split by 794 megs and it will do the rest

then use vcdtoolsX to package the mpeg back to your .bin and then whatever else you need to do so your dvd player will play it

Can you tell me what you mean by doing the iso thing to make it play on a non SVCD player.
    Thanks

  3. Thanks for the reply. Does this take a long time to do? As for the ISO thing, check out the topic titled "New info on burning SVCD .bin files in Toast CDROM XA mode". Should be quite near this one. I don't know what it does but all I know is that my DVD player does not play svcd but with the addition of this ISO it works perfectly.

That post is designed for people who cant use Missing Media Burner, and are forced to use toast

if you can play that file, then your DVD must support SVCD, unless this is a VCD and in that case most DVD's will play it and you just used toast to burn a VCD thats all.

Times on my Dual 1.25 G4
Extract mpeg: 30seconds to 1 min
    Split mpeg into 2 : 1 - 2 min
Reauthor as image: 1-2 min per mpeg

This is my speed. Its really fast, you can do it all in one sitting

Now, if you want to just cleave say 50 megs off the end, you will have to calculate how much you need to split your mpeg so you have 50 meg segments, and then reattach all but the last 50 megs.
I have never done this, but it should not be complicated

Again, easier to just split the larger one and accept the fact you will have 3CD's

Can you post your DVD model so i can see if it supports SVCD. Most likely if you got it to play on a non SVCD player using the toast ISO then you are using a VCD.

I have never heard of a way to trick a non SVCD player to play a SVCD.
